What a beautiful ranch property and awesome lake surrounded by majestic pine trees. Very nice fishing getaway! Couldn't wait to knock the dust off the fishing gear. Almost a full moon night, recent rain, very stained water, zero visibility would make for a challenging day to say the least.

We arrived at the lake at 6:30 AM. Immediately we saw signs of lots of nervous shad and various bait fish on the move trying not to be a golden arches breakfast happy meal. My brother and I just knew this was going to be a great day. We threw everything we had at them and by noon we only had a total of 9 fish…………….very disappointing based on our expectations and the solid member postings on this lake. The largest bass weighed in around 4 ½ pounds. No lunch break, we had to figure this lake out. Our limited success came from pitching around the stumps which are fairly limited. Not a lot of cover on the lake that is visible. We finally started getting some solid hits on carolina rigs using stiko's (see "Black Jack Attack" post with photo of the bait) and picked up 19 between noon until 8 PM when we called it a day.

Oh, I need to tell you the rest of the story. I had a double digit (probably around a 12) dance on the end of my line around 4 PM which really got us both pretty exited.  I was not lucky enough to get it to the boat. I had gotten so use to catching the slot fish and I had somehow convinced myself that there were only slot fish in this lake. Wrong, when someone post there are double d's in the lake, pay attention, I missed out on getting a photo with my PB (personal best) because I was not ready for that massive bucket mouth to show itself when it did. When you least expect it, it could happen to you. It happened to me. I want a rewind, a re-do! I will be back...............there is no telling what is in this lake, I am betting there is bigger and I plan to schedule a trip in the spring and find out for sure.

We ended up with 28 bass, 1 crappie, and 6 near misses (almost boated bass - we are honest golfers)

I am having a great time fishing with my older brother who has now joined the club as well. We are reliving our childhood doing something we absolutely love. Fishing and enjoying God's Great Outdoors! Nothing better than a little brotherly competition on a PRIVATE WATER FISHING LAKE is there?

Philip, don't wait for spring. Try it in mid- to late-September or October, and use new, strong line.
