We almost canceled this trip because of the weather forecast - 80% chance of rain most all day on Saturday. All the websites were calling for it, but we only ran into a little light rain in Emory about 5:00 am, and got a really good lightning show from Emory down to Lakeside. We got there about 6:15 with clouds and very little wind, and absolutely no rain (all day). The fishing was really good up until lunch time, and then it was sporadic after that. The lake is full, water temp about 77, and there is about 4 feet of visibility in the lower end and maybe a foot or so in the upper end. The pads in the upper end are very healthy, but we caught very few in the pads. most of our fish came from the outer edge of the weeds or from the brush piles in the lake.
We caught a combined 30-35, with only 3 harvested. the rest of the fish were 3-6 pounds and extremely healthy. Don't know what they've been feeding those fish, but they were all fat and happy, and enjoyed a good fight. My buddy Darryl broke his PB twice in the first 2 hours with a 5.04 followed shortly by a 6.15 beast. We had 2 others on that were most likely bigger, but lost them before we got them in. They had sucked in a magnum fluke, but the hook got tangled up in all that plastic, so it did not hook them. The fish was just holding it in it's mouth and pulling drag.
Our best lures were a frog and yellow magic early (no buzzbait), and a green pumpkin or watermelon worm midday, and a watermelon double fluke rig in the late afternoon. We caught nothing past 7:00 pm.
Had a great day catching big, fat, healthy bass with a mean disposition.
Went to Fork on Sunday morning; the weather guys said no rain on Saturday night when we checked the forecast. Spent Sunday morning dodging lightning and monsoon like rains, and finally called it a day about 9:30. The weather forecasters really blew it this weekend.

Heck of a day! Besting your PB 2x in 1 day is impressive. Being sure to expose the hook point on those magnum flukes is crucial. I still have bad memories when i missed a 10lb class fish for that exact same reason.
