Keith Barfield
Fingerling
Two Broseco rookies, myself and member Danny Renfro, fished hard from 6:15am to 8:30pm on this awesome fishery. We didn't quite hit the high bar (41 lbs) set by Mr. Brady last month, but we got close! Our best 5 went 38 lbs, 2 oz. Danny caught a 7 - 9 to start the day and I caught an 8 - 13 at 7:45pm to end the day. That was my 3rd time during the day to set a PB.
Big swimbaits were the bait of choice on Saturday. We caught 13 fish over 6 lbs, 9 on swimbaits. I caught the 8 - 13 on a Whopper Plopper. Surprisingly, this was one of the few topwater bites we had all day. Danny did catch a 7 - 1 late on a buzzbait also. Thank goodness we kept trying. Soft plastics were poor as well. Zero fish on Yellow Magic, spinnerbaits and frogs.
Danny found a mid-afternoon pattern by dragging a crankbait across the bottom along the deeper north end. After he caught fish on 3 consecutive casts, I put down my big senko and switched to a CB! During this feeding frenzy, he caught a 6 - 6, and I caught a 7 - 0. For the day, we caught 45 fish, with only 3 harvested.
Other observations and notes:
- Water temp. was 77 - 81. Wind 10 - 15mph. Cloudy most of the day. Water while stained a bit, definitely not muddy.
- We caught two of the biggest bream I've ever seen. One hit a big swimbait!
- After switching to a new swimbait, I had a big fish hit it 3 times on one cast late in the afternoon, and I missed it each time.
- Fish were caught all over the lake. The east side dam was probably the least effective for the day.
Premium property, convenient location, nice oversized boat, strong batteries, perfect weather, a sturdy net, expert boat captain, big hungry bass, fun & fellowship in the great outdoors. What more can you ask for?
THANK YOU PWF & BROSECO RANCH!

Nice report, Keith, and congratulations to both you and Danny for a great day on the water. Congrats especially to you for boating 3 PBs in one day - that's just outstanding!
