Fingerling
Through my fishing years, I have seldom had to fish much in the rain. Mostly by choice I guess But my last three fishing trips have all been an exception to that, and yet they have been some of my best outings in a good while. I headed to Martins Mill, Lakeside on Monday morning amid thunderstorms, rain, and a good bit of lightning. When I got to Canton it was still coming down steadily, so I stopped for a breakfast break. By the time I reached the lake at around 10 am, it was still raining at a moderate clip, but the lightning had stopped, so I donned my rain gear and started slinging. About my third cast I hung a good fish that promptly jumped and gave me my hook back. . That was a good sign however, of the activity level for the day. Boated 4 fish in the 4lb. range and another 4 over 5lb. Several 2-3 lbs.and one harvest fish rounded out a rainy morning that looked at first like a washout, It seemed like the more it rained, (never really heavy), the better the fish liked it. Blue fleck weightless senkos and a chartreuse/white spinnerbait were the ticket. Never caught even one on anything else. So, sunshine on the shoulder isn't the only thing that can make a fisherman happy. Even clouds and rain can do it at times!
