Fished Fannin Farms yesterday from sun up to noon with my two boys. Just after the rain that came through and the lake level is up considerably from the last time I was there.
We threw buzz baits & whopper ploppers early, had one big hit & miss and one hook up that got off at the bank. Switched to senkos & shaky head jig finesse worms without success. Did catch one dink on a black wacky senko. Switched to a 1/4 oz smoke shad colored Yellow Magic popper and that's what we caught them on. We had four or five get off and landed 15 fish. Only one bass over 14", a nice strong 19" 3.65lb bass that jumped & danced. Culled 5 bass 14" or under. The real fun came on Bluegill. The bay to the far right of the cabin was the spot. There was a 10 yard circle in the middle of the bay that was catching fish on nearly every cast. 6 casts in a row caught big Bluegill. They were hitting it before I even twitched it and hitting like bass, jumping out of the water on the strike! Caught 9 big Bluegill out of that spot, great fun! This property is perfect for my boys. Lots of bank they can cast from and plenty of shade to keep them cool. Exactly the type of spot to let a 5 & 8 year old learn to love fishing. Being able to eat snacks on a picnic table in the shade is a big bonus. :)
