Slot Fish
My fishing and golfing buddy Darryl finally joined PWF, so he and I headed out for Lakeside last Saturday. Got there at first light; beautiful morning with 70 degrees and calm winds. Water temps were 78.5 at launch, water very clear (8' or so), heavy weeds in the shallows and well out from the bank, and water level maybe 6 inches low.
We caught about 15, with only 3 harvested. Most fish looked very healthy, and put up a great fight when hooked. Our 3 largest were 5.02, 4.83, and 4.15. We never found a pattern, and tried every thing in the box. The 3 largest were caught on a bone spook, and c-rig with watermelon fluke, and a chartreuse buzz bait. We had the cabin for Saturday night (very comfortable) and got up Sunday and drove to Lake Hawkins. It got hot on Saturday afternoon, so we took a break for lunch and took a nap from 2 to 3:30 due to lack of fish activity.
i've been to this lake 4 or 5 times in the last 2 years. every time i've been there, i have always caught multiple fish from the brushpile (marked with pole) just to the south of the dock. However, we threw everything into that pile, and did not get one bite from it.
Welcome to the club Darryl; hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

James, all I can say is, fishing is funny. I have been to Lakeside about the same number of times you have and caught some good fish there each time. But the brush pile you mentioned that has been so productive for you, I have never even gotten a bite on. Tried many different lures but nada. But you can be sure I will work it extra hard next time! Fishing is funny!
