Well we may have out done ourselves on the last trip to Yates!  A great spot.  Two bald eagles decided to take up residency at the lake so we got to watch them fly around all day.  I would also like to say how wonderful and nice Mr. and Mrs. Yates are.  They make you feel very comfortable fishing on their property.  Just great people! Jim got a double digit (hopefully the pic can be posted below this report and its his biggest LMB ever) and we also boated 7 over 5lbs.  Most of the fish were caught on texas rigged plastics, with a few on cranks and spinner baits.  No love on the spoons which surprised me.  Kept 5 under 16” and everything else was over.  Water was low but thats no surprise to people who fish east Texas right now.  Didn’t keep track of all the fish, but combined, around 25-30 fish landed.  We had a slow period between 2-4 but caught fish for the last hour.  Water temp was 54 degrees.  Most fish caught were in 6-10ft of water.  Look for points and creek channels…  Proper management of the lake shows.  Take the dinks out and the big ones get bigger…  I hear the bow fishing and/or snagging for amur carp could be pretty hot this spring!  Wouldn’t mind pulling on a few of those if only they’d bite.  Anyone have a grass imitation lure? Hope this helps for anyone thats gets out there.

We just got back from Lake El Salto in Mexico and with 11 PWF members, and while we had a great time; and I will go back, no one even approached a day like that yours in little ole’ east Texas.

Andrew,

I’ll send out a full report in february’s newsletter in a couple of weeks. However, the fishing was slower than usual, however, don’t tell Kurt Kunkle in our group who caught a 12.5, the largest fish caught at Ron Speeds lodge in more than 3 months.
