Well, after suffering through a horrendous day on Fork with the Megabass event Saturday, I finally got a break with the weather.  Forecast called for 100% chance of rain on Sunday, and it did rain, but only about 10 drops.  The rest of the day was ideal conditions; cloudy, very little wind or calm, and temps in the 60's to mid 70's.  A big storm Saturday night went just to the north, so even though there was a lot of lightning Saturday evening, there was very little rain there.

The lake is perfect right now.  It is right at the top of the spillway, which makes it a lot bigger than i've seen in my trips there.  The weeds are growing, but are still scattered and not solid in any area.  There are no pads yet.  The water temps ranged from 66-70, and I could see the bottom in 6' of water without the sun shining.   I looked for beds, but saw none; as clear as the water is, they could spawn just about anywhere in the lake.

The fish were in a very cooperative mood.  I used a bone yellow magic early, and ended up most of the afternoon using a wacky watermelon senko.  They did not want a frog, spook, spinnerbait, buzzbait, swimbait, chatterbait, jerkbait, texas rig (except one out of the brushpile), or even a watermelon fluke.  Go figure; a watermelon senko gets lot's of attention, and a watermelon fluke doesn't even get touched.

As i said, the fish really cooperated.  I boated 31 (4 harvested), and missed at least another 15 or so.  My biggest 5 were:  7.34, 4.85, 4.42, 4.28, and 3.85.   The 7.34 and the 4.42 came about sunrise on a bone yellow magic on the dam side of the dock.  Other than the one I caught in the brushpile, all the others were shallow, and I could see several of their wake as they came to my lure.  It was a great day, and I really needed it after the beatdown on Fork the day before.

I've never met the owners, but congratulations to them on such a well managed lake.  Also, the cabin is perfect; very clean, comfortable, and convenient.  My second time to stay there, and I'll be back for sure.

Outstanding report, James.   Congrats on a great day on the water.

I love the Yellow Magic myself, but I must ask you an important question.

Have you broken out the white colored Livingston Pro Sizzle so far this spring?  I know that James is serious about his topwater bite once that lure emerges from the tackle box.

Thanks Murrie; yes, the bone Livingston Pro Sizzle got a workout, but no hits.   It was a weird day; the bone yellow magic worked great, but not the bone Pro Sizzle.  The watermelon senko was outstanding, but not even a bump on the watermelon fluke.

Give 'em what they want…
