New member here. 3rd time on PWF water and 3rd enjoyable experience. 1st time though reporting a successful fishing day. In my tarpon 100 kayak, I fought through the south wind today, which at times gusted to 25+ mph, yet still managed to catch 36 total. Harvested only 7 out of that. And 3 of those were right at 14’‘. All of the fish were taken with either a weighted senko or swimming senko in black/blue or green pumpkin/black. The wind really limited lure options. I found the fish stacked up along the shore opposite of the pier. It became apparent that it would be easier to beach the yak and bank fish. For a while, it was a fish or missed fish on every cast. That was a first for me.  Never landed anything over 4 lbs., but I would say that half of bass were in the 17” - 18” range and the largest being 20 “. Wow,  I will be back again soon.

The last few hundred yards of road to the lake fooled me the first time. So here’s a little “heads up” . When you get to “Y” at the corrals, go left just as the directions on PWF indicate. A paved road continues right and the access road to the lake does go left but turns into a hard to recognize dirt road that parallels the ranch buildings then veers left to the lake. Now it seems so easy.

Russell - I was thinking of also using my kayak. I have it rigged to use a trolling motor. Do u think it is needed?

Thanks.

Bill,

BJR Lake like many club lakes I suspect is a great paddling option. This particular lake is open land pasture that is exposed to the wind in every direct. So to answer your question will depend on the weather conditions that day. Sunday would have been a good day to use a TM. I would be surprised if vegation is an issue, even during summer. If bank fishing is a consideration, waders or rubber booties would be a wise choice because of the clay soil surrounding the lake. I caught 25+ fish wading this past trip. Lastly, a 4x4 truck may be needed to get to it after a good rain.
