Slot Fish
Two of us fished a full day last Sat. We did not fish Friday night, but we observed a great deal of surface activity on the lake and around shore lines there about 30 minutes before the sun went down. We awoke at sun up to a heavy fog that took a couple of hours to burn off. I caught a fish on the first cast (again green or watermellon lizard that worked on San Saba in my last report.) I boated 3 fish on that lizard in probably the first 10 minurtes of fishing and thought we were really going to tear them up. Things slowed dramatically though.
My fishing buddy and club member, Brad Ogle, aka Bass Assass’in, landed a 6-4 and a 5-8. In all we caught probably 20 to 25 bass and around 6 of these were over the 16 in length. The rest were harvested as requested. Brad stuck with his 10 1/2 inch black/red worm. I can’t get him to throw anything else it seems. He claims larger baits - larger fish. I think he now has me convinced as he tends to smoke me on every trip. I may catch more, but he consistently gets the larger fish.
The owner agreed that if the weather remains warm, the bass should start moving up into the shallow waters in the next two weeks. Our largest fish was caught probably in 2 foot of water, but most were deeper still.
This location is immaculate. The accommodations are first rate and the lake will produce probably the next club record.
Make a reservation if there are any time slots available if you have not been here!
Happy fishing - Mondo Man.
