Fished 3R for the first time Saturday in fairly strong winds. I know, par for the course. A very interesting lake with lots of submerged timber, significant drop-offs, and a decent amount of weeds. Several of the channels are protected by trees so it was possible to fish in semi-sheltered areas. The water temperature started out at 59 but hit 63 by the end of my trip.
There are a significant number of fish in the lake. I caught over 30 in about 7 hours. Most of them were on the smallish side. The largest was 2.5 lbs. I did have a bigger one break off (of course) due to bad line. Also caught a huge crappie on a rattle trap. Saw a lot of returns on the depth finder in the dredged areas along the perimeter which I guess were crappie.
The strength of the fish was very impressive and the larger 2 pounders had a well rounded shape. I caught the majority of the fish on jerk baits (Arkansas Shiner color) and a creature bait. The rattle trap picked up a few along the drop offs in the channel.
All in all a good lake with great potential. I would like to try it again when it gets warmer. A buzz bait might be the ticket.
