Giddings – Black Jack Ranch – 3/6

Took my kids fishing on a Sunday afternoon, bright sunny day with calm winds. Fished 4 hours - caught 47.  90% of fish were caught from the pier, never walked around the lake since I had the kids with me and they were already plenty occupied. Majority of fish were caught on un-weighted 5” pump/chart Yum-Dingers.  The aggressiveness of the fish allowed my 12 yr. old daughter to learn how to fish with soft plastics that day, she caught 17 total!

Majority of the fish were between 16” and 18” and weighed 2.5 to 3.5 pounds.  We harvested 11 fish just under 14”.

Prior to switching to soft plastics my daughter caught “two bass at one time” on a rattle trap; she thought that was pretty cool!

Black Jack Ranch is quite the spread.  It was an adventure driving back to the lake, the exotics along the way, a few longhorns, and then a hundred head of cattle or more back by the lake.  Only saw one other person all day and that was a farmer a few hundred yards away on a tractor feeding round bales of hay to the cows.
