I had been seeing all of the good fishing reports from Weston - SW Lake and noticed that no one had booked the lake for Saturday, March 23rd. I called my friend Jeff Spangler, avid angler, and asked if he wanted to fish this lake.
The answer I received was a resounding, "YES."
We got to the lake later in the day around 1:00 PM and only fished until 4:00. The trolling motor batteries we brought were not fully charged and could hardly withstand the wind; however, we managed to get to the the back of the lake near the creek where the lake becomes narrow.
We dropped an anchor and let the wind drift us up the lake, Jeff worked the bank over with a black jig, and I worked the middle of the lake with a 1/2 oz weighted, 1 ft. leader, Carolina-rigged zoom fluke (silver/blue shad color). We allowed the wind to drift us and each time we made it to the dam, we motored back to the creek and started over.
Jeff managed to land (3) really nice, fat, bass in the 2-4 lbs. range. and before we left I managed (1) really nice 6 lbs. 7 oz. bass! It was a really great fight as I made a country mile cast and she ate it on the fall. She was sitting near one of the marked brush piles found in the deeper water near the "island", with a bridge crossing to it.
If you haven't had the opportunity to fish this property yet, you should take advantage of all it has to offer!
