Fished Bennett Lake over the weekend of March 11 – 13th with a group of 6 family members. We really did not do any Bass fishing, we mostly targeted the Crappie. We found the Crappie on a few of the marked brush piles adjacent to deeper water.  We caught and removed about 40 lbs of Crappie (about 25 to 30 Crappie). While fishing for Crappie we caught and harvested 10 Bass under 14 inches averaging around 8 lbs. 1 very fat and healthy Bass over 3 lbs was caught and released.  We also caught and harvested 15 catfish averaging around 40 lbs total.

The water level was very low, I would guess around 3 to 5 feet low. The water had a nice greenish color not as clear as it has been in the past. I did not see any spawning beds in the shallow water; I guess the bass were not ready to spawn just yet. We experienced wind gusts from the South around 10 to 15 mph and a steady breeze around 5 to 7 mph. Water temp in the shallow parts of the lake was around 60 to 61 and in the mid 50’s in the deeper water.

We had 5 tents on the area between the cabin and the lake with plenty of room to spare for more tents. I apologize for not taking any pictures of our camping area because it was really comfortable.

Like always, Renee was a gracious host and made my family feel very welcome. My family is already looking forward to spending another weekend at Grapeland Bennett Lake, which I’m sure we will be doing very soon.

Once again I apologies for no pictures to attach to this post of our camping area and the very big and fat Crappie.
