John Bedore and I had a chance to fish Hidden Springs Ranch on Friday 4/12.  The ranch is beautiful as always and we had a great time fishing there.  It is always one of the highlights of Spring to make the trip and experience the beauty of this ranch.

The weather started out a bit cool at 51 degrees and cloudy and got up to 75  or so by mid afternoon.

The lake looked completely different from 2 years ago when prominent grass lines and clear emerald green water with 3-4 feet visibility were the dominant themes.  On this visit the water was an unusual brown color with visibility to maybe 12-16 inches.  Notably there was almost no grass.  Very different to say the least.

The fishing was different as well.  We caught most of out bass on one or two different techniques but the approach had to be exactly correct or they just wouldn't bite.  The average fish size has increased from past years as well such that the vast majority of bass caught were over 15 inches.  (noticeably no big fish however which used to be one of the trademarks of this lake, lots of culls with 3 or 4 very large fish in the mix).

The majority of our fish were caught on the North side of the lake which hasn't change from all the times that I have fished here.

The magnolias which line the entire perimeter of the lake are just starting to bloom and should put on quite show over the next couple of months or so.  This is worth the trip by itself.
