Fished all day Sat, 3-19 and the morning of Sun, 3-20.  Estimated total catch of 60 fish.  Harvested 18 bass under 14-inches - weighing right at 22lbs.  Also harvested 8 Black Crappie - weighing just over 10lbs.  Most fish were caught from 10am to 4pm in the center of the lake - not on shorelines or around structure - kind of odd.  Water temp was 69 to 73 degrees, with 6 feet of visibility.  No topwater bite.  Almost all fish were caught on soft plastic swimbaits.  Great place to fish and stay . . . the owner is a wonderful guy.

Thanks for the report Jim.  I am hoping to fish Lake Leon later this Spring.  Can you tell us what the water level looks like on this pond?

I fished Lake Leon yesterday afternoon with Shannon Tompkins of the Houston Chronicle. We caught about 20 fish and harvested 16 of them. I spoke to Jim Shives prior to our trip for advise, but could not find what they were looking for. We are adding 500 lbs of tilapia in the next 30 days. This should put some weight on the fish.

We also caught one black crappie. FYI, Shannon taught me the difference between a white and black crappie. Most people think you can tell by the color. Often this is not the case. Black crappie have 7 or 8 spines on their dorsal fin and white crappie have only 6 spines.
