Son and I fished the legendary 9G Ranch all day Friday 6am to 6pm with a 2hr break midday. What an excellent fishery in its prime. The weather cooperated with overcast and winds 5-8 mph. We landed 26 total with the top 6 fish between 4.5 and 5.5 lbs. Only 5 fish below 14”, the rest were fat 2-3 lbers all released. I lost one at the boat that looked about 7lbs, when it slammed the boat head first and cut my brand new 20# flouro. Dang! Couldn’t get the net under her in time. Sam also caught a bullhead on a senko and learned how bad it hurts when they stick you. Pics below.
We caught majority on poppers/spook (all day) and senkos. Once we circled the lake and found 3 different bluegill spawn beds, we pretty much spent the afternoon bouncing between those, picking up a nice fish or two each trip through. Nothing like getting 5 lbers on a popper at mid-afternoon. No secret, this lake has been doing well all year and is hard to get an open slot. We noted about 50% of the fish had scars/holes from previous catches, so the added pressure does not seem to impact the bite, just roughs them up a little.
The water was clear, 6 ft vis upwind, and stained 1 ft vis downwind Temp at 82 deg. We saw several 20+ lb grass carp literally laying on top of the grass chomping mouthfuls of moss like pigs. We also saw numerous schools of shad all balled up and running scared. So much forage in the lake, all bass were very fat and heavy with that bulging gut nice and full. Sad to hear the ranch has sold and likely not available much longer. We will surely miss this one.

I love this lake. For the amount of pressure this lake receive's, it really is a special place to keep putting out the fish it does. It's going to be a bummer if it sale's, and the new owner doesn't keep it in the club. Could you imagine this lake with some additional forage? and maybe a feeder or 2?
