I fished Pecan Gap this morning, hooking 8 good fish with 3 of them being under 14". It was a humid, clear 73 degree morning with a gentle south breeze and scattered clouds. The water temperature was 84 degrees, the lake level full and the water clear to 4 feet with minimal green tint. Vegetation rims the lake and is within 2-4 feet of the surface out to 20 feet from the banks and essentially all of the shallow south forks of the lake where there is standing timber.

The first two fish were early in the day on a shad colored whopper plopper with a steady retrieve. Interestingly, a third fish hit the whopper plopper at 11:00 am. All other fish came on Texas rigged Watermelon flake worms.

What did not work: chatter bait, spinner bait, swim bait, magnum fluke. I did not try lipless cranks due to the vegetation.

The fish at this property are beautiful-dark green upper back and emerald sides fading into light olive on the belly- and strong fighters.
