A group of four other members and myself went down to God’s Country for a little Private Water tournament that we do.  Huge bragging rights and a little cash are on the line.

We have been to Saba many times and have big expectations.  Our big expectations were mostly met.

After a campfire scene consisting of good grub, cold drinks and the most diverse Ipod playlist you could imagine, we rolled into the rack about 2 am.

The next morning we struggled to find any numbers of fish.  We are far from experts but decided as a conscenus that we hit post spawn conditions.

The fishing was slow most of the morning, but right before lunch I threw out the crankbait and brought it back in with a 9 15 personal best attached.  I am thinking that I am going to win all of the money.  I was the big leader at lunch with my best five going 22 13.

Unfortunately, the fishing slowed even more after lunch and I was unable to add to my total.  The rest of the group had a rough afternoon as well, with one exception.  The eventual winner anchored on a hole and force fed a jig to a 25 lb sack, that is a 5 lb average, most of which came in a 15 minute flurry.

Outfished again.

All is right in the world when you are at the Waco Creek Ranch.  If you haven’t been, you should go soon.

Thanks to Ken and Steve for making it possible.

Amen to your comments brother. I can’t wait for my return to San Saba May 1st. Leave a couple of Hogs for us…

My favorite in the club thus far.

Four of us caught 48 bass and 2 crappie April 16. The crappie could be a lake record at 3.2 lbs. if they keep such records.  Biggest bass was 6.12.  Our #1 fisherman had a 5-fish 22.9 lb. total.  I had 16.11, while a 3rd registered 11.1.  Our fourth fisherman landed 4.3 and 4.15 but didn’t catch five.
Most popular lure was 7-inch Big Bite watermelon red super fluke, with tail tipped in garlic.  We used a DD22 crank baits in the deep water and caught 4 in the 2-3 lb. range. Top-water bite was non-existent in AM and PM.  Air temp 80.  Water temp 74.  Winds 10-15 mph.  The day before, the area was raked by 45mph winds gusting to 60mph.  This stained the water slightly, but still had good visibility.  Great trip.  Great fun.  Great fishing.
