Ron Dupree and I arrived at the lake at about 8:30 on Friday the 13th and were greeted by a mirror-flat lake surface. Then, as we stood contemplating the serenity of the view, a bass hit bait in the middle of the lake. There were three of these chasing events involving one to two bass each in the next few minutes as we unloaded. This is what we hoped for! But by the time we got the boat loaded and launched, all the chasing activity had stopped. We had a fairly slow start and caught a single bass, usually on a squarebill crankbait, at each spot as we moved around. Then the bite changed to a wacky worm bite. We ended up with 30 bass landed with six harvested. Most of the bass were 1.5# - 3# and chunky. A couple probably pushed 4#. We caught every one of the bass somewhere on the bank opposite the launch. We had already unloaded the boat and were packing the truck about 4:30 when the middle of the lake erupted with multiple bass chasing bait. Again. And again. We contemplated loading the boat back up again but decided to give it a few minutes to see what happened. Well, it stopped as quickly as it started and didn't reappear as we ate dinner looking out over the beautiful lake. Overall a satisfying day with good fish, good weather, and wonderful solitude.
