Bob Scheidemann and I fished Post Oak on the afternoon of the 16th.  We arrived to breezy conditions and heavy overcast that changed to partly cloudy and very warm over the afternoon.  The lake is nearly full (nothing going over the spillway) and the water was fairly clear.  As usual, there is some aquatic growth but most is close to the bottom.  We landed 47 bass over almost 6 hours.  We caught over 50% of the bass by 2PM, then endured a slower period before catching another dozen bass in the last hour.  Bass ranged from 12 to 18" with most 15-16".  A few showed very distended bellies.  All but a handful of the bass were caught either in the NE windward corner of the dam in wind-churned water or in very stained water where the small creek enters on the far side of the bridge.  2/3 were caught on underspins using a Lake Fork trailer, 1/3 on shaky head craws, and one on topwater.  We couldn't get a bite on crankbaits, jerkbaits, lipless baits, or chatterbaits.  Both of us found the number of bass caught to be unusually large compared to our typical January trips but we aren't complaining!

Getting a top water bite in January is certainly a real treat!
