I am heading out to Yates Place for the first time on Friday and I’m looking for any advice on the best spots on the lake and how to work it. So please, help a rookie out, any knowledge of the lake will be appreciated.

Take plenty of Watermellon Green Lizards and large Red worms in the 10 1/2 size. The shore straight across from where you get in the boat has always been good. There are some stick ups you can see and some humps you can see under the water. Fish that area hard with plastics.  Go way back up the cove as you pass the owners house. Make sure you have strong quality line for fishing in the brush. Make sure to fish the large floating trees in the center of the cove as you head back in that cove. That’s a great spot. The brush right as you take the cove turn on the point by the owners house is killer as well.

Expect to catch Bass over 5 pounds ....

Dwain, the owner will surely help you out and expect him to visit you on arrival. This place is Killer! I’m headed to Waco Creek next myself. I like that lake better but the housing at Yates is far superior to Waco Creek. There are plenty of outdoor grills you can use.

Post upon your return and let us know how you did. PS, if you’re not in the Big Bass pot - do it before you head to Yates! They are in there!

You are going to have a great time.  Couple spots to hit would be channel behind island left of the dam, stumps in both coves have had fish when we were there in the past.  Watermelon plastics Trig (creatures & ring fry). Try squarebill cranks on the points also.

Good luck
