My Son's Personal Best at Leinweber

On Monday March 2nd my son Pete and I went to Lake Leinweber. It was my first PWF trip this season and my first time at Leinweber. At arrival time the temperature was about 70 degrees and expected to reach 80 by the afternoon. We spent the day fishing with either Carolina Rigs equipped with June Bug colored Baby Brush Hogs or Drop Shot rigged Z Man Hula sticks and Z Man Bang sticks in the same June Bug color. We caught fish all over the lake. My son Pete stuck to the deepest water and I fished the shallowest water in three foot or less.

Interestingly, we both caught about the same amount of bass. We culled 55 bass on the day. Pete returned eight fish to the lake that were over 14 inches. I returned seven fish to the lake that were over 14 inches.

At 10:30 in the morning my son hooked into what turned out to be his best bass yet. I enjoyed watching him deal with an eight pound one ounce bass that put on quite a show before he managed to boat the fish. It was a fun moment I will always remember. About 20 minutes later in the same spot he caught a bass that was five pounds and seven ounces. He was the big fish champ for the day. All the bass caught were extremely healthy with full bellies. Their markings were gorgeous. What a great place to fish!

I'd like to say thanks to the gang at Private Water Fishing. These outings are priceless for a dad with his family. We only get to visit our son and his family in the San Antonio area a few times a year and to have access to the kind of experience this club provides is remarkable. Thanks for all the effort you good folks put into providing these extraordinary lakes as well as the superb management that goes into each one. It gives a mediocre bass fisherman like myself a chance to feel a lot more accomplished at my fishing interest! We collect great memories every time we go to one of these lakes.

Al - thank you for the report from Leinweber - what a day of fishing and memory making!  BTW - is that an Ultraskiff 360 in the photo of your son?  Please tell us your impressions of that craft as a PWF boat.

Thanks again for sharing!

Hi Mark,  Yes. I bought a couple of the Ultraskiff 360's. I have used all the kayak and small Pelican type smaller lake products for fishing as well as the Bass Tracker Jons and Alumacraft Jons. Without a doubt for me personally, this is the perfect craft for the PFW lakes. Again, it is just my opiinion, but I think these are the safest, most versatile product for bass fishing. They have a low center of gravity that makes them capable of dealing with waves and high winds. I love their adjustable pedestal seating that can accommodate any bass boat seat or commercial deep sea fishing seat on the market. My wife likes a reclining office chair with an umbrella…no kidding. When my son caught the eight pound bass he could spin and face it no matter what direction it went. If you go on You Tube you can watch a gazillion product videos of the Ultraskiff in action as well as accessory videos for sonars, live wells, Go Pro attachments, etc. The guy who runs the production facility in Gainesville and sells them at a discounted price if their picked up at the facility, is named Matt Dunlap. It is by far the most comfortable and accommodating small water craft I've used. Furthermore our family is a bit oversized and the Ultraskiff handles the biggest folks with ease.

Al - thanks for taking the time to share this valuable info!  Hmmm - another great option for those of us who just never pull the trigger on getting our own PWF rig.
