Finally got a warm day to go catch some fish. My son had to finish up some online classes so we were not on the water till almost 3:00. This was our first time fishing Lake Leinweber so we had to try out some different baits in a variety of areas to get a pattern going. Fish were busting all across the lake but surprisingly would not really commit to any top waters. We tried frogs, buzzbaits, and poppers and landed around 5 fish. With there being a good amount of grass around the lake, we tried weightless plastics with better results. We began to get hits on Zoom watermelon lizards but found the most success with Zoom super flukes rigged weightless. Watermelon and white colored flukes both worked well. We caught many smaller fish on the shore opposite of the dam. A good majority of our bites occurred on any depth change we could locate along the bank opposite the dam. The point near where the creek enters produced lots of fish. Later on in the evening we moved to the dam side of the lake in pursuit of a bigger bite. Shortly after the move, my son caught the best fish of the day, weighed in at 5.24lbs. Lots of fish were caught in the brush/sticks along the dam all on flukes as well. No action in the trees/middle of the lake. Most fish were either tight to the bank or in 4-6ft of water on small drop offs not far from the bank. Ended the day with a final total of 60 fish. 50 something on flukes. The bite was extremely consistent throughout the whole afternoon. All fish appeared extremely healthy and were hard fighting. We will be back in search of even bigger ones.

Chip,

Thanks for the report. Very helpful.

That is a lot of fish in 4-5 hours of fishing. Way to go!

Were you able to harvest the bass 14" and smaller?

Yes, Steve. We took 21 small fish out of there. That lake really has a lot of potential.
