Dean French and I fished from 6:15 am to 10:15 am today from our Buster boat.  We had a double right away, Dean on a Heddon Torpedo and mine was on a plastic frog.  The first 45 minutes or so, the topwater action was pretty decent.  I did get two on a buzz bait.  After that, most of our fish were caught on crank baits that went down 5 -9 feet.

In total we caught 4 crappies, 2 bluegills and about 15 largemouth.  Most of the largemouth were about 14-15” with our largest going about 18”.

Most of the lake seemed to run from 6 to 9 feet deep.  Just out from the dam, the water went down to about 22 feet.  I tried a little vertical jigging and trolling a deep running crank bait to see if I might catch a bigger fish in the deeper water, but that was to no avail.

Air temp was about 85 as was the water surface temperature,  The wind was pretty light and the water color was good - not clear.

This was our first time on this lake (pond).  Does anyone out there have any suggestions on catching bigger fish in this body of water?

Thanks for your comments Clay.  I fished it several times last year, my buddy caught a decent 4.5 or so on a crankbait.  Most of my fish have been average on soft plastics.  I saw some other people fishing the bank and loading coolers with Crappie.  I believe the landowner put a stop to this, or was asked to.  I really don’t have any pointers, but if anyone else does it sure would be nice, as I live about 10 minutes from this lake.
