This report is kind of old, but here goes. I posted it once but there were technical difficulties.
A friend and I fished Grapeland - Bennett Lake on Friday 3/12 from about 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. There were bluebird skies and it was windy. We caught a total of about 14 bass. I caught 2 that were each almost 4 #s. There were several in the 2 # range. The bite was soft, so we lost about as many as we caught. Most of the bass were caught on crankbaits. I was using a red 1/2 oz. Rattletrap and my buddy was using a small red/orange belly crawfish Bomber. I caught one of the bigger ones on a 1/2 oz. chartreuse/white spinnerbait. I caught 1 on a crawtube. We had our best luck on the bank opposite the launch area. We kept about 9 bass for a fish fry. My buddy said that as he was bringing his crankbait out of the water for his next cast, a bass about 2 feet long jumped up to get it as it was leaving the water. Overall, it was a good day. I had a nice visit with Renee Bennett and she made us feel real welcome.
