Fry
My friend and I fished Black Jack from 7AM till noon. It was a great day. Overcast with a light breeze and biting fish. We caught about 25 with only a couple of dinks. Most were 1 - 2 lbs and from 15 to 18”. Largest was 19” and 3# 13oz. Lots of weeds but getting the boat out to open water was the answer.
Texas rigged green plastic worms were the answer to the weeds.

Charles,
Thanks for weighing and measuring the fish. This helps us assess the health of the fish. A 19 inch fish should weight 3.9. So this fish is above weight by about 10%; assuming the scale is pretty accurate. For those of you, like me, who enjoy the pond/lake management sides of things, please be careful in making general or sweeping opinions about a lake by a single fish or by analyzing fish at different times of the year. For example, a single fish could be the alpha male and skew your thoughts of all the fish. Moreover, weighing fish in early March; while full of eggs as opposed to early May, after the spawn, when the fish can be at their thinnest. In an ideal world, I prefer to analyze the fish in September and October each year. I think this gives a more accurate assessment. By doing this, you weigh and measure at the same time of the year each year, and the fish are not pre or post spawn. Thanks again for taking the time to post, weigh and measure the fish; we really do appreciate the in-site that these reports give us. They help us better understand the situation at our lakes and give valuable feedback.
