Of the 10 to 15 that you threw back, how big were the two or three biggest fish?  How deep was the water in which you were fishing?  What types of lures were you using?
I’m asking these questions because Van Alstyne is one of the ponds that I haven’t fished that I am considering doing so.

I fished the lake with Tripp Snuggs late yesterday afternoon and caught 35 fish. 25 fish were under 14 inches. Our 5 biggest were 3 to 4 lbs. We starting throwing large baits like jigs and larger 10 to 12 inch texas rigged worms with little success. We moved to lipless crankbaits and lipped crankbaits and caught 5 to 10 fish. We then moved to wacky rigged Senkos and the bite picked up right away. Color did matter. I threw traditional colors like watermelon red and watermelon see and the action was slow. I then moved to Yamamotos pumpkin with black color 186 and got bit a lot more often. Tripp started with and stayed with Lake Fork Tackles shad colored stick baits and his bite was steady. We used both a weighted wacky hook and an unweighted hook.
The water is 3 feet low. Water depth is currently up to 14 feet. Vegetation has taken over about 30 percent of the lake. Most of the fishable water is 6 to 9 feet and this is where we found the fish. The nain channel of the lake that runs right down the middle is currently about 5 to 7 feet deep. Full pool this would be 8 to 10 feet.  We did use side imaging electronics and marked lots of fish suspended at 6 feet, probably the thermo cline, along the dam. The water depth along the dam is 11 feet to 14 feet. Water temperature is 92 degrees. Lake has a great bloom with 24 inch visibility.
