Bob Scheidemann and I had a fun time improving the bass population size distribution at Post Oak on Thursday. We harvested 55 small bass (mostly 10-11"), most of the released bass were 1.5 - 2 lbs, and the largest couple were a little over 3 lbs. This is a much different size distribution in this lake than we've seen in the past.

We arrived in the fog around dawn and had an enjoyable topwater bite casting from the dam.  Most were caught on poppers but some on weightless flukes and squarebills.  When that slowed down, we rigged up our kayaks and hit the water.  The fog had burned off, skies were partly cloudy, water temp started off around 62 degrees (67 later), water clarity was about 3 feet, and there was a lot of submerged grass.  The fish seemed to come in spurts separated by slow periods. Most of the bites were fairly aggressive. We were never able to get many bass from the thicker grass areas (even though our kayaks allowed us the get in the areas with less than a foot of water over the grass) and found most of the fish at the edges of the grass or in deep water near the dam. Midday bass were caught on chatterbaits, squarebills, and flukes. Shad colors and green seemed to be the most productive.  We ended the day around 3:30 catching mostly small bass in the deep water off the dam using drop-shot and Carolina rigs.  There was always enough bigger bass mixed in with the small ones to keep it interesting.

I'm sure that the larger bass that we have caught here previously were hiding from the sun somewhere in the thick grass so we need to go back to find them.
