Fellow club members John Shepard, Jim Mathis and I ventured out to Hudson Lake Sunday 11/8. We arrived about 8 AM to a very calm and secluded tank. As advertised the path to get to the tank is little more than a lightly used dirt road until you get to the house near the ramp then you will find some concrete that leads to the boat ramp. The ramp is well suited to launch my 20 ft fiberglass boat, just be sure you stay on the ramp once you get the trailer in the water.

John and i started counter clock wise around the perimeter to explore the depths and any submerged structure throwing moving baits and topwater, while Jim used the club boat and drifted down the near side bank in front of the cabin flippin weightless senkos around the shallow vegetation. Jim had better luck fishing slower with the senkos then John and i did with moving baits.

We found the dam to be about 11-12 ft deep with a very sharp drop within a few feet of the bank until you get to the far side from the ramp then there is a like a transition where it goes from 12' to 9' deep then another from 9' to 4' deep area that has submerged vegetation and this is where most of the our bites came from.  Another area that john and i discovered to be pretty productive was down towards the shallow end in the middle basically underneath the power cable that runs overhead from one side of the tank to the other. We found that positioning the boat underneath the cable and fan casting around the 6 ft water produced a good number of fish. If you go back further toward the right there are a few laydowns and in front of them is where John caught the big fish of the day 19.5 inch.

Water clarity was good, actually very clear and the water temp avg was 65 deg. It was mostly cloudy all morning and early afternoon keeping the air temp a little on the cool side then the sun came out and warmed things up. We stayed until 4:30 ish mostly due to the bite just completely shutting down and wanting to be sure we could navigate our way back to the road in daylight.  Baits we used with success were dropshot, whacky rigged senkos and shad colored cranks.

All in all it was very a satisfying trip in quality and quantity, we caught 72 bass and 3 crappie culling 21 bass and the 3 crappie. i would say the avg size to be in the 14-15 inch range mostly fat and healthy, there were a couple that were pretty lean.

Just a note to those who pull a boat there, i would heed the warning of the road condition after a rain especially when you are leaving the property. There is a pretty good incline or hill near the log cabin that i could see posing a challenge trying to pull a heavy boat up due to wet mud after a rain so take note.

Great report Ron, excellent detail on the depth, areas to target, and fish size/quantity!  Also appreciate the feedback on the road, you are right, wet conditions will require attention for anyone wanting to pull a heavy boat.  Glad you, John, and Jim had a nice day out there.
