Fishing has been tough the last few weeks. Having being humbled last weekend at Laneville Hidden Springs, I hadn’t planned on fishing until the water temps climbed a few degrees. Fellow member Grant Robinson convinced me otherwise, and I’m glad he did.

We were on the water by around 8:30. Water temp was 48 degrees when we launched (incredible launch area by the way). A couple hours later we had no bites and had tried various presentations at various depths and covered close to half the lake. Having put the chatterbait away for the winter, I thought what the hell, and tied one on. Caught a 5.67 pounder on my first cast, which would end up being the biggest for the day. Caught a 3.52 on the second cast. We fished chatterbaits the rest of the day, catching 8 quality bass and missing several more, until the rain pushed us off the lake around 2 p.m.

Our top five went just over 23 pounds with two over five. Not bad at all for water temps in the 40’s. 

This lake is really cool and I’ll definitely be back. The owner came down and chatted with us for a while and let us know his plans for the lake. It’s already a very quality fishery, but it’s only going to get better. Excellent addition to the club!
