John Shepard and made a last minute decision to run to Rock Chimney. We arrived around 10:30 am and fished till 6 pm. Mostly cloudy conditions and windy. Fished around the perimeter on foot and found the best spot was on the shallow end on the east side in front of the house. Lots of little males in what turned out to be 1-1.5 foot of water in some grass, We decided to board the boat aound 2 pm and cruise around to see any signs of life elsewhere. Not finding any big groups of fish we hit the same area we found earlier but from a different angle and it paid off. We ended the day with 53 total, mostly small bucks but a few females with bloated bellies full of eggs. We did manage to find two big girls full of eggs, these two over 19 inches were the exception to the rest of the catches.

Small shakey head with bluecraw stiko worm and dropshot with junebug and chartruese tip tail  finesse trick worm were the best baits.

We had great conversation with Mr. Stanley who told us the entire take had frozen over during the freeze of ‘21. It thawed quicky and we found water temps of 64 – 68 degs. The next week should be some good action is my guess.

Water was good in color and temp, but the water level is way below normal. Makes the fish easier to find i say.
