William Fetech
Toad
Fished this property from 0700-1200.
Conditions:
Air temp: 77 at 0700; 87 at noon
Water temp: 82-83
Sky: mostly overcast
Wind: light
Water: clear to about 3 ft
The water level is down about 6-8 feet, but there is still plenty of water in the tank. Boat launch is still usable.
I caught 8, all in the 10-12” range.
Summary of lures:
Top water was effective on outside weed edges from 0700-0830, with a Green/chart. Hula popper being the only top water that was hit (tried a paddle tail soft plastic and a black buzz bait, but no takers). Caught 3 and 2 got off near the boat (no short strikes).
After the top water bite stopped, I tried multiple baits. It appears they were interested in medium to deep crank baits in an orange/black color fished aggressively. Caught 5 (three on the medium and 2 on the deep). It appeared the deep water bite was turning-on in the late morning as I caught 2 in the last 1/2 hour.
I will be returning to this property on 27 Aug to fish 1200-sunset and hope the deep crank bit will be good.
Baits that did not work:
- jig
- Tx-rigged worm
- jigging spoon
- soft plastic weighted jerk bait
- hard jerk bait
