Sunday March 21, 2021: Temperature: 45 to 68 degrees. Gusty winds from mid-morning throughout the afternoon. Water is very clear. We arrived around 7:30am and started throwing top waters and other baits from the bank to test activity. Nothing happened, so we launched and trolled a spinner and chatter bait accross the lake which boated the first bass in about 5 feet of water. We picked up a few more on a spinner bait (white with willow leaf blades) and chatter baits (red skirt w/pumkin bug trailer and a black & blue bait & trailor), and a white & green bass assisin, working in around 5 ½ to 7 feet of water. By 11:30 am we had picked up about 17 fish, the larger ones were up to around 2½ lbs. Most were in the 1½ lb range but very healthy, and strong fighters. We hit the water again after lunch, again throwing chatter baits with some success. The wind picked up but we found fish up shallow, rooted in the vegetation. Numerous fish were caught shallow on chatter baits and watermelon green 6” and 8” zoom lizards. Fighting the gusts while on the water was tough but there was a strong bite in the early afternoon from 2:00 to around 3:30. We finally loaded up around 5:00. All in all we think we boated around 45 bass with the largest a solid 3½ lbs. Right now the lake is quite fishable although there’s already grass growing throughout a good part of the lake. All in all the fishing action and scenery was hard to beat. Quite a treat for a first spring outing!
