The wind is your friend! Ha! Saturday at San Saba it blew 30mph sustained from around 10:30 to 5:00pm. It flat just beat us down. We were only able to catch 75 bass.( my wife uses a grocery counter) I was really looking forward to catching some serious numbers. Seriously….We thumped them pretty good in that wind. We threw 2 baits most of the day,. a 3/8 oz white/chartreuse terminator spinner bait with tandem willow leaf blades and a 8 in. Zoom watermelon’red flake lizard. All fish were pre-spawn and just building beds that day. Some were completely clean and others had irritated lips and the beginning to show signs of bloody tails. They were all caught right against the shore slop. behind the hydrilla. The lake is full and the fish have moved up with the new water. Also the water there is a bit off color so perfect for the spinner bait. My wife turned me into little Donnie net monkey…I spend all day grabbing her fish that were too big for her to get a hold of. I am chewed to pieces. We didn’t catch any giants but we averaged 2.5 lbs -5-lbs and must have caught 40 3 lbers…All wer little butterballs. Bass on steriods! My wife is going to enter her biggest a 5.4lb female that as you can see in the picture is a real toad.
On another note; We had a small hitch in the accomodations. the last night we were there, we returned to the cabin to find turkey hunters had moved in too. No one was supposed to be there except us. So I contacted the forman and 2 minutes later I got a call from the Owner Ken O’Rear. Now get this. Ken who I have only met a couple times tells me to move my stuff out and go up and stay in his main ranch house. No one there just get the key and go in and make yourself comfotable. Unbelievable! Guys, This is the kind of owners that we have allowing us to use their lakes and travel on their private property. we owe it to them to take better care of there places than we do of our own. Hat’s off to you Ken O’Rear for extending such kindness to my wife and me.
Blessings to all
and tight lines,
Don Nichols

Wow Don, sounds like y’all killed ‘em all right! Way to go. And as an old country boy, I always take extra care when on someone elses land, cause that’s just how I was raised. And it would appear most folks in our club act the same way, or I doubt the owner would have allowed you and your wife into the main house. It’s good to hear we have landowners who appreciate us as much as we do them.
