I spent a 1/2 day on San Saba with Mike Leggett of the Austin Statesman newspaper. We had great conversation and big fun. We caught about 25 fish with most of the fish in the 3-4 lb range. Biggest fish was 6 to 7 lbs. Most fish were caught on very large spinner baits (1 oz to 1.5 oz). The water is very stained and the lake is full pool. For our Dallas members it may come as a shock, but many of these fish have already spawned. If you are fishing this lake over the next two weeks, you will probably find a few pre-spawn fish, some spawning fish, but most will be post spawn fish. Most of the fish we caught were beat up from the wonderful act that we call spawning. I love San Saba, there is something magical about this property.
