John Bedore and I had a chance to fish one of PWFs newest fisheries on  Saturday 5/1.  We drove through torrentail rains to get to the lake and the rains were just clearing out as we arrived at 9:30 AM.  The fishing was slow to start and most of the fish were kind of small.  We knew that there were solid fish on the lake so we just kept fishing, changing up our presentations and lure selections.  Around noon we started catching more solid bass and it just got better throughout the afternoon.  at 3:00 the bite picked up and it seemed like every fish we caught was 4 pounds.  We knew we had a short window to make hay as there was another line of storms coming in at 5:00 so we caught a bunch of fish on shallow crankbaits for the entire window.  When the rains started the bite died.

This is a great fishery with extremely fat fish that were absolutely crushing our chase baits and fishting as hard as any bass on the club.  It is a short drive for Houston area anglers and is going to be a superb lake for big numbers of 3-5+ pound fish.  I really appreciate all of the hard work that Steve and his team have put into giving the Houston area anglers some SUPER  bass fishing lakes like Butler lake.

Bruce,

We fished ½ day on Friday, You guys fished behind us on Saturday. Glad we left them biting for you guys. We got hammered with rain for our ½ day effort and still caught a bunch. The concrete launch is a real treat. We did not have much luck out in the middle of the lake. Actually did not catch one fish in the middle. We circled the whole lake and fished the bank drop off. Did you guys have any luck in the middle of the lake? Most all of the lake is averaging around 3 to 4 feet until you get to the far end and our DF showed 13 to 14 feet at the deepest. Glad you guys got a full day in. Enjoy following your post………….

Thanks for the report Bruce, glad you were able to get some good fishing in between storms.  We’re really happy to add Butler Lake to the club along with the other Houston lakes we’ve added in the past year, it has been a good run and we’re looking to keep it going!

Good to know Wayne!  I have enjoyed following your adventures online as well.

Negative on the middle of the lake fish.  Interesting,  because my partner John, had fished the lake that Monday with Wendell Vines and they had just as mch success in the middle as they did along the shoreline.  Also they caught a good number of crappie as well.  We kept fishing at all depths and locations but were only successfull near the shoreline breaks for the most part.
