Fished San Saba on 11/18 and 11/19 along with two guests. The first day started out slow, possibly due to the cold front that had passed through the day before. Even with overcast skies, we struggled to find anything that would work reliably. Things picked up on Saturday. In the end, we managed to boat 63 fish. While no real pattern emerged, blue/white spinner baits and a good ole fashioned silver spoon were by far the most productive. Topwater was non-existent. We had only five strikes and no fish landed with a mix of buzz baits, PopRs, Hula poppers, Jitterbugs and everything else we could find in our tackle boxes.
We were very impressed with the quality of the fish. Only two dinks and two crappie. (In total, we harvested 5 LMB + the crappie.) We did not get into any of the lunkers I have heard so much about. However, I was very impressed with the bass in this lake. Almost all were in the 2.5 – 3.5 range with all of them being strong, healthy fighters.
This was my first trip to San Saba. What an amazing place. Fantastic setting for a great lake. I’m very much looking forward to returning to chase the big ones.

What was the water level like. The last time I was there the lake was probably down 12 feet below the top of the drain by the dam.
This lake is outstanding if you catch it right and the quality of fish is noteworthy. It’s one of my favorites for sure. Last trip bait balls were everywhere early in the morning. Fish had all they wanted to eat there.
