Fellow member Ron Dupree and I had a successful trip to beautiful BlckJack Ranch but we had to grind it out for most of the day.  We arrived at dawn to a mirror-like surface and only a little visible activity.  I had a successful first hour catching eight by throwing a squarebill far out onto a large shallow flat.  Ron had some success with a weightless wacky worm around the drain at the north end of the lake. We then fished from the pier briefly (Ron caught a bass on three successive casts with a deep-diving crankbait) before taking off in the boat.  Things immediately slowed down.  The weak pattern that we developed was finding the bass about 10-15 feet from the bank.  The western bank was much more productive than the eastern bank.  We never caught more than four bass from any location and ended up moving often, circling the lake four times. We took a mid-day Outlaw BBQ break and then got back to fishing around 2 PM but were soon chased back to shore by a line of storms.  The rain didn’t last long but the fishing was much slower all afternoon.  We ended the day catching 52 bass.  Two or three were 4#, a few more were 2.5 – 3#, and the majority were 1.5#.  We harvested 10.  Water level is dropping slightly but almost full, clarity was 18” with a green tinge, temp was 88 degrees, and there are no areas of matted vegetation.
