Wife and I fished Moonshine on Saturday. Sure it was hot and humid and sunny, but we had a slight breeze, just enough to keep us comfortable. Moonshine is in good shape with a lot of water and a lot of variety to fish. Grass and timber and channels and flats. Water was 83F to 88F with about 3.5ft of viz with a nice greenish tint. Arrived at sunrise to a lot of surface dimples and popping, but we think it was mostly bluegill or tiny bass – both of which we saw numbers of in the shallows. We didn’t find a prominent pattern or depth – but contrary to recent reports, we found the bass to be scattered in a variety of areas – and actually not too productive near the dam.We ended up landing 37 – 2 at 4+, 6 at 3+, several at 2.5+ that were releaed, and only 4 dinks. Of the 37, 21 were harvested. Most effective baits were: curly tail t-rig, paddletail, sft swim jig w/ paddletail, "naked" blade bait w/paddletail in watermelon, shad, and green pumpkin colors. The fish were basically tight to the heaviest grass and sticks that you could manage to effectively fish. Road in is great, boat is very nice. Great day on the water – blessed for sure!
