Fished Saturday starting at around 7 am. Had a very difficult time getting the boat in the water, water is very low and the banks are really steep. As hard as it was getting it in it was harder pulling the boat out. started at the rocks and just kinda tooled around enjoying the day. Caught 2 real nice ones, 2 to 2 1/2 lbs around 9 then the wind kicked up. in 15 minutes there were whitecaps and the boat was real hard to keep still to fish plastics in the deep water. Used cranks and rattletraps but knew I wasn’t getting to them. There is no protection from the wind out there and ran my battery down just trying to stay by the rocks in the deep end. Water was around 6 to 8 ” visibility and the small lake was aqua colored and had about 4” visibility. After the rains yesterday, 4” in pasadena by the lake it is sure to be very muddy, the banks are all dirt and mud, but should have risen some. West Houston got 4 to 5” and north by Conroe and Magnolia got up to 7”. This should help Huntsville site. Glad to see Post Oak open again, fished it once and had great success with many good fish and that was when it was down over 6’ at the dam. Am looking forward to going out there soon. Hopefully all the lakes will start filling up now for the spring.

Not sure if any of you have fished the small pond here but I’d encourage you to budget a little time bank fishing it next time you’re out.  I was there in November and after getting whipped by the wind I packed it in a little early and fished the pond before heading out.  While it doesn’t look as promising as the lake, it is pretty deep for a small body and I’ve caught some good fish in there.

What did you catch them on in the small pond?

Mostly on Texas rigged worms and 3” grubs on a jig head. There’s plenty of vegetation.  I mentioned I’ve caught good fish in there - to clarify, they were good relative to getting skunked in windy conditions in the lake.  No monsters but they were nice fish in the 1.5 to 2 lb plus range.  One of the workers told me they’ve released some nice tournament fish in the small pond; I cannot validate this but it was enough to keep me trying for a bit. I know there are some big ones in the lake and I’m looking forward to hooking up with them soon. Sounds like you had a nice outing here recently, what did you catch them on?

Jason, thanks for coming back.  I thought I was getting skunked fished all over the big lake except by the rocks.  Then I saw some Seagulls diving down and eating what looks like some good size shad so I went over there and started throwing a median diving crank bait that looks like a shad parallel to the rocks where it drops off and I caught some really nice big chunky fish.  I also caught some by the small tree sticking out on the back side of the lake with green lizards but the big school was caught by median diving crank bait.  I think it is called sexy shad by strike king.
