My son Jon and I decided to end 2021 with a trip to one of our favorite PWF lakes, Pecan Gap. Lots of fishing but not a lot of catching. My son caught the larget bass of the day about 10 cast into the trip, just prior to the sun rising. She was short and fat (full of eggs) weighing 6.4, (very subtle bite… but put up one hell-of-a-fight)! We managed to catch 5- other bass during the day, a nice 4.14, a 3.01 and 2-dinks. The quality was there for 3 out of the 5 fish, all were fat with eggs. There was no pattern to speak of, the few we caught were scattered. Only baits that were getting bit were brush hogs (pumpkin), 7 in. Googan stick worms (black), and lipless crank bait (blue/shad). Good place to be during spawn, I’ll bet someone is going to yank a 10 pound hog out of here this spring!
