Arrived at the lake @ 8:30. Cool and crisp with a slight breeze and nice cloud cover. Began fishing with a crank in @  6 to 7ft. of water and was quickly rewarded. The lake is a full pool and the water relatively clear. Went to a jig but the bottom was a mess, slimmy green gunk. Tried a worm with a 1/16 oz. weight and had little success. Back to the crank. With my fiftieth (that’s right 50) fish in the boat I headed to shore a few minutes after 12;00. Harvested 38 and had one real nice one, best fish I’ve caught at kickapoo in some time. All and all a fine day on the water.

John,

Nice start to 2012 harvesting at Kickappo. Wow 50 fish in early february! Keep it up and you can be one of the 2012 harvest winners. Last year a 158 fish total for the year won for the most fish harvested. Kickapoo is a great lake to teach a kid how to catch fish. The fish are aggressive and plentiful. Heck, its a great lake to take anyone who wants to catch fish. Very under fished and over the years has produced a few big fish.

I really like Kickapoo and hope the harvesting is the thing to do. All the fish caught were males (at least no eggs ) with the exceotion of three which includes the larger fish, she was loaded. The vast majority of the catch was fan casting the mouth of the back arm of the pond

John,

My guess is that more than 3 of the fish were males; but had limited egg production or were too thin to tell. Mother Nature has away with reducing the number of eggs fish produce when a lake is over populated. We are planning to remove about 200 fish this year from kickappoo. So, your efforts are about a fifth of the total needed. We simply want to move the average size fish up a bit.
