Sunday was a great day to be on the water. After the area received over an inch of rain the day before, I was worried that the fish might not be all too agreeable. However, I landed a nice 2.5 pounder on the second cast and that set the tone for the next four hours. While it was not non-stop spring fishing, we are certainly leaving the winter doldrums behind.

Time: 12:00 – 4:00 pm
Air Temp: 52 – 59
Water Temp: 54
Wind: Calm
Water Level: Full pool (great news!)
Water Clarity: 4 – 5 feet (water was stained in the south end of the lake (where the creek runs in) but quickly cleared as we moved north. Water by the dam was very, very clear.)

We boated 17, two of which were harvested. The other 15 were nice fish. All 2 – 3 lbs. Nothing big, but strong, healthy looking fish with great color. The females are loaded up and ready to head to their beds shortly.

Almost all were caught on a chrome Rat-L-Trap. A shallow water blue/white crankbait produced two and a spinnerbait also caught one. Tried a few other tactics but kept coming back to the Rat-L-Trap. (This lure has been successful for me on other waters as well in  the past few weeks. Fished slow, it seems interesting to the bass as they become more active.)
