Slot Fish
Members Bryan Durrett and Cortney Coe fished Leon 2/19. We drove to the lake in the rain Sat evening and fished Sunday. This area has seen a great deal if rain and the lake is full. Water was running over the dam in fact. The lake was 100% fishable which is very different than the typical summer conditions here. We had hopes of catching somthing for the rest of you to chase in the big bass contest.
That did not happen this trip but stay tuned. We did put about 35 in the boat. Most were in the 15 to 18 inch size. We harvested 7 under 14 inches which we gave to Tom, the owner there.
Water clarity is much better than anticipated with all of the recent rains. You could see about 4 feet in most areas. Our best luck was in the lake area west of the duck blind where water was very clear. The fished preferred a 2.75 green Craw Papi Texas rigged on this trip.
We were surprised some of the submergent weed growth did not go away due to the extremely mild winter we are experiencing. It appears this lake could see quite a bit of weed and vegatation this summer based upon the current conditions. This has always been a great frog lake in the summer months if you like to throw frogs.
It was great to get out in his creation…
Good fishing my friends….
