Fingerling
Saturday (2/26) was another great late winter (early spring?) day for being on the water. For my first time at Sulphur Bluff – Timer Lake, I fished from 12 – 5.
Air Temp: 57 – 63
<>pWater Temp: 58 – 60Wind: Light 5 – 8 SW
Water Level: 2’ from full pool
Water Clarity: 2’ – 3’
Landed a nice 2.5 pound fish on the first cast of the day and thought I would light it up all afternoon. But after the first couple, things slowed down a bit. Fished the bottom of the deep water water in front of the damn looking for a big one. Then moved into the woods. I’ve never fished such heavy cover before. Let’s just say there was plenty of trial and error involved. After finding one fish and getting hung up a dozen times, I moved back out to the open water. I managed some success, ending up with 11 fish on the afternoon, all bass. The biggest was a nice 3 or 4 pounder; plenty of fight in the big ones.
Chrome Rat-L-Traps and a blue/white shallow crankbait produced all but one of the fish.
Talked with the property owner and a couple of his friends for a while at the end of the day. Great guys who shared some local knowledge about the lake. I’m looking forward to getting back on that water to put it to work.
