Tripp Snuggs
Fry
Well for the second time in 7 months David Curtis and I caught another DD from Yates. But this time I was the lucky one…she was the first fish of the day at 7:30am. We caught her right against the bank on a bluegill pattern squarebill crankbait. She SMASHED it the second it hit the water. She weighed in at 10.25lbs, 26” long and a 20.5” belly. This was my first 10 pounder and a personal best, so it was a lot of excitement.
We only caught about 14 more fish all day, all under 16”. We caught fish on a few different baits from lipless cranks to weightless lizards fished as slow as you could stand it. One person in our group got broke off by a 5 or 6lber (on weightless lizard), and we saw another good sized fish on the bed but she was very, very spooky. We checked back for her a few times and the only look you would get was of her leaving the area! Oh well, this is typical for fishing after a front in early March. Bluebird skies and cold mornings make for tough conditions, but just be ready for one big bite!
As always, thanks again to the club and Mr. Yates for providing us with such an amazing fishery and great cabin. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
