Went out to Meridian Reed lake last Sunday and fished all day. Beautiful property, lots of wildlife. The new boat dock is great. My wife and I started fishing at 9:30 and caught fish all day. Mostly in the 1-2lb range but did catch quite a few in the 3-4 lb slot as well. She beat me again with the biggest of the day, a nice one that weighed 6.6lbs

91 bass total. I already have another trip booked and will stay in the house on the property. The owners are great guys and a big help with everything. This is a 1st class site. I hope it goes barbless soon. We need to really take care of these fish.

Hi Don - I’m wondering about the road(s) that lead to this lake.  Are they accessible via car or is an SUV recommended? Also how is the boat that is on the property?

Appreciate your input!

Don, were the new pontoon boats on site?  The write up mentioned that they would be getting 2 new 4x14 pontoon boats for our use.

To you Sean, I guess it depends on the car, to be safe i would take either a truck or suv anything with a high clearence. Also the county road going in is very ruff,

And to you Jim, The pontoon boats were not there when we fished. We fished from the carolina skiff. It is a nice boat, the only drawback with it is the trolling motor bracket is rusted through and looks like it could go at any minute. Also it does not have a seat in the back of the boat. You have to sit on the ice chest that is provided. The pontoon boats should be there now.

The two boats have arrived. However, they are missing the brackets to mount the trolling motors. Those should be in on Monday 3/10 and ready for operation by Wednesday 3/12

Will the trolling motor mounts be on the bow or the stern? I hope the bow as it will be hard to control the pontoons using rear stearage. With so much shallow timber it will be hard to avoid running into a lot of it when you can’t see what’s in front of you. And also, will they have seats?

I am taking my son to this site tomorrow afternoon.  What is the setup?  Tomorrow is Monday 3/12, which boat would be best to use with my son?  I was a little confused by the days/dates.  Any suggestions on areas of the lake you suggest would be appreciated.  Hopefully I can get him on the fish!

Fished Reed on Sat (3/10)and Sun (3/11). The road down to the lake is a bit rough. High clearance would be my recommendation. It rain hard on Friday and Saturday. We would not have been able to make it to the lake without my 4WD.

The Carolina skiff is a nice boat to fish from. As Don points out, the motor bracket is a bit sketchy. Next time I fish with it, I’ll bring a 1x4x6. The bracket was too narrow for my Minn Kota bracket. One of my mounting nuts slipped off the end of the mount. I was lucky enough to grab my motor by the shaft as it was headed into the lake.

The pontoon boats look sweet. They might be a little tough to get around in the tight timber, but it will be like fishing from a dock. Not sure if they will have seats, but they are big enough to put a camp chair or two on them if you want to.

Plenty of fish in this lake. I’ll post up a separate fishing report.
