I fished with two friends over the weekend just in time for the cold front. Saturday morning was 27. I caught a 3lb and a 4lb back to back at 8:45. We went back to get the straggler friend who slept in (lightweight) at 10am. We fished the rest of the day and landed a dozen total ranging from 2-5. The lake is full after the recent rains so the water clarity was chocolate milk. We were able to fish back in the cove where the hydrilla was thick previously bacause of the rise in water levels. We caught most of the fish back in there. The deep water didn’t produce many at all. I couldn’t tell you what the water temp was but as the days progressed it was sunny and windy of course. With the water clarity as it is currently the fishing will be tougher. We caught everything on plastics…senkos and lizards. My friends hadn’t been before so they had a good time and would go back again. I always have high expectations when I go here based on past experiences so this wasn’t one of those trips but still a great time! Thanks Ken! I would bring an anchor if you have one.

I have had my best days in June at San Saba. By this time the fish have settled into a pattern and the weather is consistantly warm or even hot. If you can catch the lake in the summer before a storm or miny front, it can be a trip of a lifetime. I’ve been lucky enough to catch a few of those summer days.
