Fingerling
Since this is a new property, here’s a longer-than-normal report to give everyone an idea of what Meridian is like.
I fished the weekend of 3/10 and 3/11 with two out-of-town friends. These guys used to live in Texas and love spring bass fishing. They came down from Philly and Boston with high expectations. This property did not disappoint.
Saturday was rough weather. Cold, wet weather had moved in, with a couple of inches of rain by the time we got on the lake at 8:00. We launched a bass buster near the new boat ramp and put one guy in that. By the time he got around to the new boat dock (~300 yards), he had 9 fish in the boat. We fished through some awful weather, but stayed out all day with the exception of 90 minutes when a thunderstorm chased us off. It paid off with 140 fish.
Sunday was “slow.” 112 fish. Biggest was a 7.2.
We had success with almost everything we threw. Most productive were Lake Fork Magic Shads, either solo or paired with a chatterbait. Shallow running cranks and traps were highly effective as well. Jigs and spinnerbaits brought a couple dozen in as well.
Tons of timber to throw at. A couple of creek channels to explore. And some good open water by the dam. Also some big flats to see if you can find a big one cruising on her own. We found fish everywhere. There was one magic spot that produced 15 fish in 10 minutes. You’ll have to find that one on your own.
This place is special. The new pontoon boats weren’t ready for us, but they look great (see the other thread for my comments about those as well as some tips for using the Carolina skiff). The house is exceptional. Fantastic kitchen. Great common area. Very comfortable bedrooms. The ranch hand, Chris, is a tremendous asset for the the property and is eager to help with anything you need. The road to the lake is tough in wet weather so be prepared for that. (Again, see the other thread for comments about that.)
This is the perfect place for a big group of friends. You can fish hard if you want. Or you can enjoy the house/property/hill country. Great place to bring 2 or 3 couples. Easy, productive fishing from comfortable boats for the wives if they are not hardcore into fishing. Make a reservation now. This place will likely book up quickly.
